The Martin Cadden sponsored Eire Og Cycling Team have been busy training and racing in preparation for the upcoming Race Around Ireland. Both Michael Devins and Daire Mooney took part in the recent National Time Trial Championships held in Swinford Co. Mayo. The Cadden boys acquitted themselves well amongst the best testers in the country with Devins recording a time of 60 minutes for the 40km event and Mooney a further 50 seconds down. The event was won for the 5th time by David Mc Cann of Phoenix Road Club.
Directly after the event Mooney and the rest of the Race Around Ireland team & crew headed out into the wilds of Mayo for an 8 hour trainig exercise. This was the last of the training camps for the team which saw the lads tackle a number of race stages in Mayo & Galway including a couple of stages undertaken in the hours of darkness. Team manager Colm Casey was pleased with the teams progress and is quietly confident of a good result next week when the race starts in Navan on September 16th. The race will be passing through Sligo town on Thursday September 17th, with the Sligo Team due to reach the time station on Pearse Road around lunchtime. Make sure to come out and give the lads some support. For anybody wishing to follow the teams progress check out www.teamconnacht.com
The official launch for the team will be held in Connollys Bar Sligo on Sunday the 13th of September at 8pm, all are welcome to attend and partake in refreshments and a fundraising draw with lots of great prizes.
