Matt Brammeier, who beat Nicolas Roche in the finale of the Irish National Championships in Sligo this year has capitolised on his great display in the recent World Championships where he attacked from the gun and was in the leading break for 200km by signing a contract to race with the HTC team of Mark Cavendish. Brammeier and Cavendish raced together on the GB track squad and it will be interesting to see them together again with the Irish Champions jersey as part of the formidable HTC lead out train.
High Road Sports has added Ireland's Matt Brammeier to HTC-Columbia's international roster for 2011. Brammeier, 25, enjoyed a successful 2010 season during which he joined a nearly 200-kilometre breakaway during this year's World Championships in Geelong, and won the prestigious Irish National Road Race title in June.
HTC-Columbia Team Manager Rolf Aldag commented, "Matt has shown tremendous character coming back so strong after his very bad accident two years ago, being run over by a truck and then winning the Irish National Road Title this year. He is a real fighter with a lot of talent, good tactical skills from his track experience, and the right spirit."
"I am thrilled to be joining HTC Columbia in 2011," added Brammeier. "It's the best team in the world and it's a huge honor that they have put their faith in my abilities as a rider. I like to work hard and ride hard and I'm excited that I will be able to improve and learn from the very best. It's been a long and tough road back from the injuries that almost ended my career 2 years ago but it's all been worthwhile. It's a dream come true to be given such a fabulous opportunity with HTC-Columbia."
