In an impressive display of sprinting prowess Turlough Mooney of the martin Cadden sponsored Eire Og Racing Team scored a superb victory in the 3rd category event at the Stamullen Grand Prix last weekend. Having been placed on numerous occasions over the last number of weeks it was only a matter of time before he landed a win and an upgrade to a 2nd category licence. Midway through the race however Turlough suffered mechanical problems and found himself 30 seconds down on the lead bunch, but with a strong ride he made it back into contention for the 30 man sprint to the line and the rest as they say is history.
Also racing for the Cadden sponsored squad over the weekend were Basil Freeman and Daire Mooney, who rode the West Coast Wheelers Open Classic in Co. Galway. The race was held over an arduous 120 km course in the mountains of Mayo and Galway and with freezing rain and headwinds to contend with all day some riders described it as a day in hell! Nonetheless both Cadden riders rode strongly, with Mooney taking 6th spot and Freeman taking the first Veterans prize. All in all a very promising weekend for the Cadden Eire Og squad and with Ras Donegal looming on the horizon the boys are hoping to erase the memories of last year’s event and put on a good display in what promises to be the toughest event of the season for them.
Training continues on Saturday and Sunday from Markievicz Park
