EIRE OG CYCLING CLUB

2008 season fast approaching

After a tumultuous year in 2007 the Eire Og Martin Cadden Monumental Sculptors squad are looking forward to the impending 2008 racing season. 2007 was definitely a rollercoaster year for the team with notable high points being Basil Freemans Connacht Veterans Championship winning performance, Turlough Mooney’s impressive return to racing after an 18 year absence and The Markievicz Cup coming home to Sligo after 18 years in the hands of Daire Mooney. The lowest point in the season for the Eire Og Cadden sponsored team came at Ras Dhun na nGall when the team was decimated in the hills of Donegal. Bad luck, bad form, crashes, breakdowns all played a part in the calamity which left only one rider from the team finishing the event well down the field.
2008 is a new year and the Cadden boys are training hard for the season opener in 2 weeks, The Cycleways Cup in Navan Co. Meath. Basil Freeman and the Mooney cousins Turlough and Daire are keen to get their season underway early and build form for the local races The Mooney Trophy and The Markievicz Cup which are due to be held on the last weekend in March.
Cycling Ireland memberships are currently due for renewal. Application forms can be obtained from the club secretary. Training continues for the next few weeks at Markievicz Park on Saturday and Sunday morning at 9. All riders are welcome to attend.
