This weekend saw the Martin Cadden sponsored Eire Og racing team travel to Balbriggan in north Co. Dublin to participate in the Noel Hammond Memorial race. Lining out for the Cadden sponsored squad were Basil Freeman, Turlough Mooney and Daire Mooney.
Freeman took part in the veteran’s event which consisted of 4 laps of 25km on a very tough circuit. Although he didn’t finish among the prizes this week Freeman rode well and is looking towards the upcoming Connacht Championships where he hopes to retain the Vets title he won in Sligo last year.
In the elite race Turlough and Daire Mooney faced 6 laps of the same arduous course. It was action from the drop of the flag with numerous small groups attacking and gaining a small advantage only to be caught a few kilometres later. Both of the Cadden sponsored boys stayed close to the head of affairs but never managed to get into any major moves. Nevertheless both riders performed well and finished the race only a few minutes behind the winner Ryan Connor a professional riding with the Pezula squad. With the national championships taking place nest week in Mullingar both riders are hoping to ride well and taking their recent form into account a medal is not an impossibility.
Training takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings from Markievicz Park at 9. All are welcome to attend.
