EIRE OG CYCLING CLUB

Successful Training Camp In Sligo

This weekend saw The Martin Cadden Sponsored Eire Og Cycling Club and the Sligo City Tri Club hold a very well attended training camp in Collooney, Sligo. There was a lot of new faces seen at the event and we hope to see them all on the road soon with the improvement in weather conditions a great relief to frustrated athletes who have been forced to train indoors for the last month.

Saturdays program featured 2 turbo sessions concentrating on VO2 max efforts and strength training for TT’s and triathlon. This was followed by an in depth lecture on nutrition for performance and recovery with a demonstration on strength and core muscle development being the last item on the agenda. The program was given by Coach Jay Daly.

Sundays program started with a road training session with the spin split up into a beginners group and an advanced group. Padraig Marrey, coach of our own ex World Champion Mark Scanlon, took the beginners out for a short spin demonstrating group riding techniques, while Jay Daly took the advanced group on a longer session where the emphasis was on formation riding and followed by some high end efforts. Some of the group followed this up with a short jog. After lunch Padraig Marrey demonstrated some useful techniques to be applied in triathlon training programmes and gave a brief overview on the various nutritional supplements required by performance athletes.

It was great to see riders of all abilities in attendance and they can be assured that they will be catered for over the coming months in the club training spins. Spins leave from Markievicz Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9.

All riders in need of a racing license for the coming year, please contact the secretary for details as soon as possible as we hope to have the first batch of licenses processed in the next week.
