Riders and crew from the Martin Cadden sponsored Eire Og racing team were delighted with their performance in last weeks Race Around Ireland. After 3 days of non stop racing covering almost 1400 miles and over 75,000 feet of climbing they finished less than an hour down on race winners Team No Prior Experience. The race was the first of its kind to be held in Ireland and will surely not be the last with a great buzz in all the towns and villages on route. As they passed through Sligo last Thursday Team Connacht were hot on the heels of the leaders and chasing hard as they passed through home territory. They had been unfortunate the night before with some major navigational errors, electrical problems, double tyre blow outs and traffic jams in Belfast City. All of these minor hitches added up to give them a large time deficit to pull back, but they never gave up and fought hard all the way until the last stage across the Dublin Mountains where the deficit remained at under the hour.
Nevertheless all involved were very pleased with the result and will be back next year to try and improve on their 2nd place. In the meantime check out their blog and photos @ www.teamconnacht.com
Team riders were Dara Mooney, Padraig Marrey, Noel Brady & Mick Brady. The crew did an excellent job and had a task as difficult as the riders over the 3 days of non stop racing. Indeed the performance of the crew was paramount to the teams success. Crew: Colm Casey, Jimmy Durcan, Ray Mc Hugh, Ray Staunton, Brendan Scullion, Jesse Mooney, Tony Mooney, Michael Devins, Alex Carey, Jim Tuohy & Greg May.
