EIRE OG CYCLING CLUB

Turlough Mooney on form.

In his second year on the comeback trail Turlough Mooney of the Martin Cadden sponsored Eire Og Racing Team is showing remarkable improvements in form over the last number of weeks. Having been just out of the prizes in the Mooney Trophy and Markievicz Cup he went on the rampage over the following weeks with some strong displays and was in the prizes every week since. 10th spot in the Ben Mc Kenna Memorial race in Balbriggan was followed the next week by a hard earned 4th place in Ras Connemara. While this week he was narrowly pipped into 2nd place in the first round of the Swords League by ex international rider John Short of Dublin Wheelers. At this rate it is only a matter of time before he is upgraded to 2nd category and if all goes to plan a 1st cat. Licence should be his before the end of the season.

Also showing good form the last few weeks are Basil Freeman and Daire Mooney. Freeman rode strongly in Ras Connemara to take the first Veteran prize, while Mooney is finally showing some glimpses of his ability with a very strong ride in the Traders Cup race in Dundalk last weekend. It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel for the Cadden sponsored squad and after a rather sluggish start to the season all riders are finding good form with hopefully a victory coming for one of them in the near future.

Next week’s racing takes place in Maam Co. Galway for what promises to be a tough race around the local mountains. Training continues at 9 a.m. from Markievicz Park every Saturday and Sunday morning. Riders of all abilities are welcome.
